FLOODS BRINGS MUD, SNAKES, AND DISEASES
Resume:
In Jakarta, floods always bring mud, snakes and diseases. It is often in some areas in Jakarta, such as Kampung Pulo and Kedoya. In Kampung Pulo, floods have caused this area be submerged in mud calf-high adults carried along by the floods. Actually, it’s no longer surprising, because Kampung Pulo which is situated by the Ciliwung River. This area is one of several  flood-prone areas that can reach a height of two meters.
For resident in Kedoya, West Jakarta, the floods on Saturday brought an unexpected guest - a 3 meter long python. The python usually live by the river, which explains its preternatural visit to the neighborhood that is often inundated by water from the overflowing Pesanggrahan River during the rainy season.
Actually, the main problem that haunts the residents is the threat of an outbreak of sanitary-related diseases. According to the Health Agency chief Dien Emmawati, the most common diseases attributed to floods are skin infection, influenza and muscle aches.
Having contact with flood water that contains various bacteria from sewer and rivers made a lot of people affected by diseases. Moreover, after the flood is gone, the water consumed by people is often contaminated, which can lead to diarrhea, dengue fever is also caused by mosquito larvae.
The preventive measures that can we do such as fumigation to kill mosquito larvae and more disseminate information to the society about how to prevent contamination by the bacteria leptospirosis, such as: washing the feet and hands as often as possible, never leave water inundated, make sure to perfectly boil drinking water and always put on footwear.
